Cashel (pop. 2,403) is a town in County Tipperary in the Republic of Ireland. It is an important market town at the center of a rich farming district. On the Rock of Cashel, which rises above the town, are the ruins of a cathedral and of Cormac's Chapel, an excellent example of Irish Romanesque architecture. Cashel was the seat of the Munster kings from about A.D. 370 to 1100. See also Brian Boru.
