Buvelot, Louis, bihv loh, lwee (1814-1888), is considered the founder of Australian landscape painting. Buvelot painted in an Impressionistic style that brought a new emotion and lyricism to Australian landscape painting. His sunny and peaceful scenes in both oil and water color later influenced the group of Australian landscape painters known as the Heidelberg School. This group worked from 1886 to about 1900 in the village of Heidelberg, now a suburb of Melbourne.
