Bury (pop. 180,612) is a textile town in Lancashire, England. Paper, textile chemicals, and machinery are also manufactured in the area. Other industries include light engineering and the production of paint. Bury was the birthplace of John Kay, an engineer who invented a weaving machine called the fly shuttle, or flying shuttle, in 1733.
