Buckinghamshire (pop. 479,028) is a small county in southern England, near London. It is known as a center of electronics and related industries.
The area of Buckinghamshire was reduced in a reorganization of local government in 1974. Part of southern Buckinghamshire, including the towns of Eton and Slough, was taken into the county of Berkshire. The county was further reduced in size in 1997, when Milton Keynes became a separate unitary authority with all the local government powers within its boundaries (see Milton Keynes).
