Brymer, Jack (1915-2003), was an outstanding British classical clarinetist. Brymer was praised for flexibility and beauty of his tone. He gained his first important recognition in 1947 when the English conductor Sir Thomas Beecham selected him to succeed the famous clarinetist Reginald Kell in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Brymer played in the orchestra until 1963. He joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Symphony Orchestra from 1963 to 1972 and then the London Symphony Orchestra from 1972 to 1986. Brymer founded the Wigmore, London Baroque, and Prometheus ensembles. He was born on Jan. 27, 1915, in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. He died on Sept. 15 or 16, 2003.
