Brown, George Mackay (1921-1996), was a Scottish writer who won fame for his poetry, short stories, novels, and essays. Many of Brown's works reflect the life and scenery of his native Orkney Islands in Scotland. In his writings, Brown drew on life in the farming and fishing communities of the Orkneys, their history and traditions.
