Brian, Havergal (1876-1972), was a prolific British composer. His Gothic Symphony is written for an orchestra of 180 musicians and 4 choruses. It was composed from 1919 to 1922 but not performed until 1961. Brian also wrote 5 operas and 31 other symphonies along with numerous additional orchestral works and many choral works and songs. Brian did not begin his major compositions until the 1920's, and his work received little performance or recognition until late in his life.
