Boheme, La, is the name of a tragic opera in four acts by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini (see Puccini, Giacomo). The title is French and means "The Bohemian" or "Bohemian Life." La Boheme is set to a libretto (text) in Italian by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. The libretto is based on the French novel Scenes from Bohemian Life by Henri Murger. The opera was first performed at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy, on Feb. 1, 1896.
