Beckett, Margaret (1943-...), a British politician and member of the Labour Party, became environment, food, and rural affairs secretary in 2001. She had served as leader of the House of Commons (the lower house of the United Kingdom's Parliament) and president of the Privy Council (an honorary council appointed by the monarch) from 1998 to 2001.
