Becker, Carl Lotus (1873-1945), was an American historian and political thinker. His writings on the Revolutionary War in America and on the French Revolution are admired for their scholarship and literary charm. Several of his books, such as The United States: An Experiment in Democracy (1920), analyze clearly and concisely the workings of democracy. Becker wanted to help people think more logically about democracy and what makes it work.
