Barratt-Boyes, Sir Brian (1924-...), a New Zealand surgeon, won international recognition as a pioneer in heart repair, especially in children born with heart defects. Brian Gerald Barratt-Boyes was born in Wellington on Jan. 13, 1924. He was educated at Otago University. During the 1950's, he was a visiting fellow at the Mayo Clinic in the United States and at Bristol University in England. Barratt-Boyes became surgeon in charge of the cardiothoracic surgical unit at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1965. He was knighted in 1971.
