Banbury is a market town in south-central England. In the 1600's, Banbury became famous for Banbury cakes, which were baked in the town. Banbury's original market cross, erected in the Middle Ages, was destroyed by the Puritans during the 1600's. The present cross at Banbury was erected during the 1800's. It is commemorated in the nursery rhyme "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross."
