Bacchus Marsh
Bacchus Marsh is a town in south-central Victoria, Australia. It lies about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Melbourne on the Western Freeway. The town is situated in fertile valleys between the Lerderderg and Werribee rivers. The district is noted as a producer of export-quality apples and high-grade vegetables, and the town is encircled by rich farming and grazing lands. The first white settler in the valley, Kenneth Scobie Clarke, arrived in 1836. In 1838, Clarke moved westward to the Pentland Hills and vacated the valley to Captain William Henry Bacchus and his son. Clarke gave the locality the name Bacchus's Marsh.
