Australian Alps, often called the playground of Australia, have the highest mountains in Australia. The Alps lie at the southern end of the Great Dividing Range in southeastern New South Wales and eastern Victoria. Geologists sometimes describe the Alps as the watershed between the Murray and Snowy rivers. The Australian Alps rise to a height of 7,310 feet (2,228 meters) at Mount Kosciuszko.
