Armagh (pop. 54,263) is a local government district of Northern Ireland. It is centered on the historic city of Armagh. The city was once the capital of Ireland and the residence of provincial kings. Today, the city is the leading religious center for the whole of Ireland and has archbishops in both the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland. Armagh has beautiful buildings, including two cathedrals, Georgian houses, and an observatory. The district's workers produce textiles, tires, chemicals, optical items, and processed foods.
