Archer, William (1856-1924), was a Scottish-born drama critic and playwright. He is best known today for translating the plays of Henrik Ibsen. His translations (1906-1909) introduced the Norwegian playwright to the English theater. As a playwright, Archer's only success was a melodrama, The Green Goddess (1923).
