Allison, Bobby (1937-...), became one of the most successful and popular drivers in the history of American stock car racing. Allison won the Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) Championship in 1983. The Nextel Cup series is the national championship for stock cars--American sedans with many modifications to increase power and speed. The series is governed by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Allison won many honors for his driving, including being named Most Popular Driver six times.
