Bast

Bast is the general name for strong fibers obtained from the stalk or stem of certain plants. The fibers are typically stiff, and tan or yellow in color. These properties tend to limit their use to such products as ropes, cords, twines, and carpet backing. However, some types of bast fibers are made into fabric for clothing.
