Addams, Charles (1912-1988), an American cartoonist, became famous for the morbid humor of his drawings. Addams enjoyed turning ordinary situations into ghoulish comedy. His cartoons featured ghosts, monsters, haunted houses, and cemeteries. Addams was best known for creating the comically grotesque characters called the Addams family. The family inspired a popular television series (1964-1966) and two motion pictures, The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993).
